We sang “With Humble Heart” (LDS Hymn #171) at church today and the lyrics really stood out to me today. The second verse goes:
Help me remember, I implore,
Thou gav’st thy life on Calvary,
That I might live forevermore
And grow, dear Lord, to be like thee.
I like how the third verse carries on with this idea. I usually feel like the verses of songs are somewhat independent of each other, but not this time. While I sang, I felt like I was pausing to marvel at being able to become more like Christ
To be like thee! I lift my eyes
From earth below toward heav’n above…
I also liked the fourth verse because of its asking for a change of heart.
As I walk daily here on earth,
Give me thy Spirit as I seek
A change of heart, another birth,
And grow, dear Lord, to be like thee.
Having your heart changed is one of the best blessings of the gospel, and this song has us asking for God’s help as we search for this blessing.
